Poufs/ Hassocks/ Ottomans – How to Make Your Very Own!

How to make your very own Pouf (also known as a Tuffet)!

This fun project can be made in a few hours with my video tutorial to guide you. You will need a sewing machine, 1 and three quarters to two yards fabric, Beanbag pellets, a 19” zipper, upholstery thread, sewing pins, ruler, trammel point or other tools for creating a circle.

The fabric in this video is from our Katja Ollendorff Collection. The pink and orange upholstery fabric is Margarita in the color Orange Backdrop and the blue upholstery fabric is Scandi in the color – Kalmar.

Supplies:
● 1 large bag bean bag pellets
● 2 yards 54” Wide Fabric
● 19” Zipper
● Upholstery Thread
● 4 Yards 5/32” Welt Cord (optional)
Tools:
● Fabric Scissors
● Sewing Machine
● Size 18 Sewing Machine Needle
● ¼” Cording Foot
● Zipper Foot
● Straight Edge to measure and cut fabric
● Tramal or Something to Draw a 17” Circle

Our Pouf finished size is 16” in Diameter by 16” H

Fabric Cuts –
● Cut 1 piece 17 “H x 51.25”W for the sides
● Cut 1 piece 20” Square for the top
● Cut 2 pieces 20” H X 12” W for the zipper bottom
● Cut two 1 ½” Bias strips 54” L for cording (optional)

Fabric Cuts –
● Cut 2 pieces 17” H X 37” W for the sides
● Cut 1 piece 17” Square for the top
● Cut 1 piece 17” H X 9” W for one side of the zipper bottom
● Cut 1 piece 17”H X 10.5”W for one side of the zipper bottom
● Cut two 1 ½” Bias strips 70” L for cording (optional)

Sewing your Poufs

Step 1 (both round or square pouf) – Sew the zipper between the two bottom half pieces using a ½” seam allowance

Step 2 – Top stitch one side next to zipper teeth

Step 3 – fold the second side creating a flap to cover zipper and topstitch this next to zipper teeth as well.

Step 4 (Round Pouf Only) – Draw a 17” Circle on your top and bottom fabric pieces
Step 5 (Round Pouf Only) – Sew Cording onto the top and bottom pieces following the drawn Circle lines
Step 6 (Round Pouf Only) – Once cording is sewn on you can now cut out your circle shape

Step 7 – Square and Round pouf – Now sew the sides to your to your top piece ( for the square pouf you will
need to sew the two 37” pieces together at one end) joining the edges before completing the perimeter.
Step 8 – You can now sew the bottom of your pouf on to complete your project.

And there you have it!  A step-by-step guide for creating your very own pouf ottoman! Sit back, put your feet up on your new custom and unique pouf, and enjoy the end-result!
