Apply the mineral spirits-based refinishing compound to any color cotton canvas. We always recommend that you first test this wax solution on an inconspicuous area to ensure the desired results. This wax is sold by the gallon and should only be used on cotton fabrics. If this solution were to be applied to a synthetic material such as vinyl, it would not have the same results as when applied to a cotton canvas. The cotton canvas yarns absorb the wax solution; synthetic yarns repel the solution.
We also always recommend that prior to using the wax, that you brush, clean and dry the surface. You can choose the easier and desired manner of applying the solution to the canvas, but it is most often applied by spray, paint or brush. After applying the liquid to the cotton duck canvas, allow time for the fabric to air dry.
Canvak is petroleum based and perfect for creating a mildew and water resistant fabric material. It is most consistently utilized on tarps, automotive covers, tipis, tents, boat covers, yurts, outdoor furniture fabrics and other items.
The active ingredients and components of this solution are: 85% mineral spirits; 12.5% inactive ingredients; and 2% Zinc Naphtenate. These create a near legendary water resistant canvas and fabric preservative.
